THE MOISTURISER MATCHMAKER

Finding a moisturiser shouldn't be complicated... but with new launches every other day and new ingredients "trending" left and right, it can feel like a minefield. Here's my advice for finding the perfect moisturiser in MINUTES!

Moisturiser - one of what I call "The Bookends".

Your moisturiser's job is to support the skin barrier, maintain hydration and strengthen the skin over time.

The right one depends less on trends and more on what your skin is actually doing.

Here is how I choose and make recommendations for patients every day in clinic.

If Your Skin Is Sensitive, Reactive or Post-Treatment

IF YOU WANT SIMPLE, RELIABLE HYDRATION

HYDRATE | OBAGI

CHOOSE THIS IF:
You are using active ingredients.

You want something straightforward.

You do not want fragrance or fuss.

Best for: all skin types

Why I Recommend it: Consistent, dependable hydration - you can't go wrong. This works beautifully alongside retinol or exfoliating acids.

If Your Skin Is Compromised or Redness-Prone

REBALANCE | OBAGI

CHOOSE THIS IF:
You flush easily.

You are sensitive.

Your skin barrier feels unsettled.

Best for: Sensitive, redness-prone skin

Why I Recommend it: Lovely and calming, super lightweight. I love it for inflamed skin or those with acne.

IF YOU ARE USING A RETINOL

HOW I DECIDE IN CLINIC

I base my choices for moisturiser completely on my patient's skin, taking their concerns and goals into consideration.

Is the skin dry, or just dehydrated?

Is there a medical condition we need to consider like acne or rosacea?
Is the barrier compromised?
Are we starting with a retinoid?

Your moisturiser should support the rest of your routine, not compete with it! Find one you and your skin like, and stick with it.
