Bond repair treatments work by targeting the broken disulfide bonds inside the hair strand that cause brittleness, elasticity loss, and the straw texture that comes with bleaching or over-processing. Epres was created by Eric Pressly, the chemist behind Olaplex's patented bond repair technology. The formula uses a maleate ester that bonds to damaged areas inside the hair shaft in a 10-minute pre-wash treatment. The INCI is deliberately minimal because the active does the work. For heavily processed hair, this is one of the most targeted treatments available.

1. Apply to dry hair before washing, distributing from mid-lengths to ends.
2. Leave for at least 10 minutes. For heavily damaged hair, leave up to 30 minutes.
3. Shampoo and condition as normal.
4. Use weekly for the first month, then every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain.
Diethylhexyl Maelate, Oleyl Alcohol, Alcohol Denat, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine

All three target broken bonds but use different chemistry. Olaplex links broken disulfide groups with its own patented molecule. K18 uses a peptide that rebuilds keratin chains in leave-in format. Epres uses a maleate ester developed by the same chemist as Olaplex's original formula. K18 is leave-in while Epres and Olaplex are pre-wash rinse-out treatments.
