There’s nothing like that first real hit of summer sun — the kind that makes you slow down, breathe deeper, and actually switch off. I’m currently in Ikos Marbella, which has quickly become one of my favourite holiday spots. It’s peaceful, luxurious, and just the right amount of indulgent.

When I travel, I like to keep things simple but intentional, especially when it comes to skincare. I want products that work, but also feel good to use. A mix of skin-protecting heroes, mood-boosting extras, and little luxuries that make every moment feel like a treat.

So here it is, part one of my summer essentials edit. What’s in my
beach bag, what I’m reading, what’s on my nails, and why SPF will always be the
most important step in your summer routine.

Skin First:
SPF That Works As Hard As You Do

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: SPF isn’t just a beach-day essential, it’s your best anti-aging strategy. On this trip, I’ve packed multiple hard-working formulas that each earn their place in my rotation:

Darling Glowy Screen SPF 50+

For days when I want a hint of radiance and a glow that doesn’t come with sun damage, this one is a dream. It acts like a highlighter-meets-shield and layers beautifully under makeup (or over nothing at all which is generally how you’ll find me).

Vichy Capital Soleil Protective Water SPF 30

A brilliant all-over body SPF. I love how fresh and hydrating this feels - it’s more like a skincare mist than a traditional sunscreen. Bonus: it doesn’t leave a trace on swimwear or sarongs.
This is relatively new to Phare and I’m so glad we got it in stock, I think you’re going to love it.

Darling Glowy Mist Me SPF 50

This one’s for beach bag reapplications. The texture is divine, and I love the hint of scent that feels elevated rather than overpowering. The fine mist makes it ideal for top ups and I can reach my back or other awkward spots without having to ask Ross for help!

Skincare Note

Regardless of where you’re holidaying this summer (I know Salthill is as sunny as Marbella this week), reapply your SPF every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating. Sunburn is never chic, and it’s never worth it. Any of the mist SPFs you hear me talk about at ideal for these top ups.

Little Luxuries Make the Moment

There’s something about summer that makes me want to experiment with colour, texture, and even my skincare! A holiday like this is the perfect excuse to add a few new pieces to my wardrobe and introduce some colour. A few lifestyle extras I’ve brought with me (and wouldn’t be without):

Aurum + Grey Bead Necklace

Understated but luxe, this necklace catches the light beautifully and goes with everything from white linen to my favourite bikini. It’s my version of effortless jewellery.

Semilac Nail Polish in "Watermelon Neon"

I’m a neutrals girl at heart, but this shade brings just the right punch of colour for sun-drenched days. It feels just like summer in a bottle, and if you do happen to get a tan this summer (even though we all know how I feel about that) – this colour can really make it pop.

NEXT Bikini

Comfortable, chic and supportive. I keep it simple with classic cuts and minimal fuss - this one does the job beautifully. I cannot remember the last time I’ve felt this confident in a bikini thanks to my mummy makeover!

For the Moments In Between

Even though I’m loving this heat and good weather, I spend a lot of my time under an umbrella, and that’s where the books come in. This week, I’m reading Beach Read by Emily Henry. Light, romantic, with just enough emotional depth to keep me turning the pages. I’d recommend it with an Aperol spritz in hand, a portion of chips to nibble on, and your feet tucked into warm sand.

The Takeaway

Summer skin is glowing skin — but real radiance comes from rituals, not risks. Choose protection, choose pleasure, and pack a few things that bring you joy. Whether it’s a silky SPF, a zingy neon polish, or a page-turner you’ll remember long after the tan fades, summer is as much about what you take with you as where you go.
