A gentle at-home exfoliating treatment from Irish brand Doctrine with 10% lactic acid, matcha leaf powder, glycerin and phytic acid. Smooths and refines skin without disrupting the barrier. Scented with green tea and honeysuckle. Not for sensitive, peeling or compromised skin.

LACTIC ACID 10%: A gentle, hydrating AHA that exfoliates by dissolving dead skin cell bonds for smoother, brighter skin, while also drawing moisture into the skin as a natural humectant.

CAMELLIA SINENSIS (MATCHA) LEAF POWDER: Antioxidant-rich green tea leaf powder that gives the mask its distinctive colour and provides environmental protection alongside the lactic acid.

PHYTIC ACID AND GLYCERIN: Phytic acid is a gentle brightening antioxidant that complements the lactic acid; glycerin maintains moisture balance during the treatment to prevent dryness.

10% lactic acid is a meaningful concentration for a home mask. Lactic acid is the gentlest AHA, hydrating as well as exfoliating due to its larger molecule size and natural humectant properties. The short 1 to 2 minute contact time keeps it accessible. Use with caution if your skin is reactive or you are already using leave-on acids elsewhere in your routine.

1. Use in the evening on cleansed skin.
2. Apply a thin, even layer to face and neck avoiding the eye area.
3. Leave on for 1 to 2 minutes on first use. Gradually increase to a maximum of 10 minutes as skin builds tolerance.
4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
5. Follow with the Doctrine Barrier Repair Cream as step 3 of the Matcha Power Peel, or your usual moisturiser.
6. Use SPF the following morning. Lactic acid increases photosensitivity.

Lactic acid has a larger molecule size than glycolic, meaning it penetrates more slowly and gently. It also acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin as it exfoliates, which reduces the dryness that glycolic can cause. At 10% in a short-contact mask format it is an effective but accessible treatment for those who find glycolic too strong.
Start with 1 to 2 minutes on first use and build gradually up to a maximum of 10 minutes as your skin adapts. If you experience significant tingling, burning or redness, rinse immediately and reduce your contact time next time. Never leave on overnight.
Use with caution if you are already using leave-on AHAs, BHAs or a retinoid in your routine. Doctrine recommends not using this on the same day as other exfoliating products. The Polish Exfoliating Matcha Cream Cleanser can be used as step 1 before this mask, but if you use both, avoid other exfoliants on the same day.
Not recommended during pregnancy. This is a leave-on treatment with 10% lactic acid, a meaningful AHA concentration. While lactic acid is generally considered lower risk than salicylic acid, leave-on AHAs at treatment concentrations are generally avoided during pregnancy. Also contains fragrance. Check with Dr Laura or your midwife before use.
