Dull nails age the hands more than most people realise, and reaching for heavy colour isn't always the answer. Active Shine is the one I'd give to someone who wants their nails to look healthy and well-kept rather than obviously painted. The pearly finish from calcium borosilicate catches light in a way that reads as luminosity rather than shimmer. Glycolic acid and Vitamin E treat the nail underneath. You can wear it alone or layer it over any shade for extra gloss. No lamp, no base coat needed.

1. Apply to clean, dry nails with no oil or moisturiser on them.
2. Sweep one or two coats from cuticle to tip, waiting two minutes between coats.
3. Wear alone for a natural pearly finish, or apply over any other polish shade for added luminosity.
4. Air-dries. No lamp or base coat required.

Both. It works as a standalone treatment you can wear on bare nails, and also as a finishing layer over any shade for extra shine. Glycolic acid and Vitamin E treat the nail underneath as it sits on it. Unlike a standard top coat, it has enough coverage to wear without colour underneath.
No. The calcium borosilicate creates a soft pearlescence rather than visible glitter. On the nail it reads as a healthy, glassy finish rather than something decorative.
Expect three to five days of solid wear on its own, longer when used over a colour polish with a base coat underneath. Touch up as needed without full removal.
Neither. It air-dries on bare nails with no base coat required. A base coat will extend wear and help protect natural nails, but it's not necessary to make the product work.
