Gradual self-tanners are one of the most underrated products in a body care routine. They give the look of a real tan without the commitment, the prep time, or the risk of going wrong. Dove's version uses DHA for the colour with a nourishing base of Sunflower Oil and Vitamin E, so it feels and behaves more like a body lotion than a self-tanner. The Light to Medium shade is forgiving and low-maintenance, giving a believable glow over 4 to 5 days of daily use. I'd recommend this over more expensive versions without hesitation.

Exfoliate skin first — a smooth surface gives a more even result. Massage the lotion evenly over clean, dry skin in circular motions. Allow to absorb fully before getting dressed. Wash hands immediately after use. For best results, avoid shaving or waxing for at least 24 hours before application. Apply daily to build and maintain colour. If spending time in the sun, apply a separate SPF product once the lotion has fully absorbed and skin is dry.

Gradual formulas are considerably more forgiving than full self-tanners. Exfoliating beforehand and applying in circular motions reduces the risk of patchiness. Apply lightly to dry areas like elbows, knees and ankles where product tends to absorb unevenly.
Freshly shaved skin is more sensitive and open pores and follicles can absorb product unevenly, leading to a dotted or patchy result. Waiting 24 hours allows the skin to settle and gives a more even finish.
