Hydrolysed marine collagen is collagen derived from fish skin and scales that has been broken down into smaller peptides (hydrolysed) for better absorption in the body. Marine collagen is predominantly Type I collagen — the most abundant type in human skin, hair and nails — making it particularly relevant for skin elasticity, hydration and anti-ageing. Hydrolysing it into smaller peptide units means it's more bioavailable than non-hydrolysed collagen, which is too large to be absorbed effectively.
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is an essential cofactor in the body's natural collagen synthesis process — without it, the body cannot form stable collagen fibres. Including it alongside hydrolysed marine collagen supports the body's ability to produce and maintain its own collagen matrix. It also provides antioxidant protection against the oxidative stress that breaks down existing collagen.
One sachet mixed into 150ml of water daily is the standard dose, providing 2.5g of hydrolysed marine collagen and 40mg of Vitamin C. You can take up to two sachets daily — doses of 2.5g to 10g of hydrolysed marine collagen are supported by the evidence base for cosmetic dermatological results. Do not exceed two sachets daily.
Dr. Doireann specifically chose not to include biotin in this formula. As a practising GP, she is aware that high biotin supplementation can interfere with blood test results — specifically thyroid function tests and cardiac troponin tests used to diagnose heart attacks — potentially leading to misdiagnosis. Many collagen supplements include biotin unnecessarily. This formula doesn't.
