The key difference from the original is the texture and base: where the original Relief Sun uses a creamy hydrating formula centred on fermented probiotics, the Aqua-Fresh uses 30% Rice Seed Water and Panthenol (Vitamin B5) for a noticeably lighter, more watery, refreshing result that absorbs in seconds and leaves a sheer dewy finish without any greasiness or stickiness. The SPF50+ PA++++ protection and no-white-cast formula are identical across both versions — it really is just about the texture. The original Relief Sun uses a creamy base with 30% Rice Extract and fermented grain probiotics — better suited to dry, normal or sensitive skin wanting deep hydration. The Aqua-Fresh uses 30% Rice Seed Water and Panthenol in a lighter, more watery formula — better suited to oily, combination and acne-prone skin wanting a refreshing, non-greasy finish. Beauty of Joseon themselves describe Aqua-Fresh as the option for those who found the original too rich.
Chemical — the UV filters are Ethylhexyl Triazone, Drometrizole Trisiloxane (Mexoryl SL), Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid (Mexoryl SX), Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) and Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S). All are photostable Korean and European approved filters. Free from Oxybenzone and Octinoxate — reef-safe.
Panthenol is Pro-Vitamin B5 — a well-established skincare humectant and barrier-supporting ingredient. It draws moisture into the skin, strengthens the moisture barrier, and has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties particularly relevant after UV exposure. In a sunscreen it means the product is actively supporting the skin barrier rather than just sitting on top of it.
